Viking is really two fleets on one map. The longships are near-identical sisters working fixed European itineraries, so you will often see a dozen of them strung along the same stretch of the Danube or the Rhine, turning around at Passau, Vilshofen or Budapest on the same weekly rhythm. The ocean ships behave completely differently — long legs between Mediterranean ports in summer, then Northern Lights runs up the Norwegian coast. If a longship looks stationary for days in winter, that is normal: the rivers quiet down and the fleet lays up.
