About the Port
Skagen sits at the very tip of Jutland, where the Kattegat and Skagerrak seas meet in a dramatic confluence visible from Grenen Beach. In the late nineteenth century, the town's uncommonly clear light drew Scandinavian painters who founded an artist colony still celebrated today; their works, along with scenes of the surrounding heath and dune landscapes, fill the Skagens Museum. Yellow-washed houses and narrow lanes give the town a distinct, quietly picturesque character.
The old town lies within easy walking distance of the harbor, making it simple to explore galleries, museums, and waterfront streets on foot. Grenen, one of Denmark's few unspoiled natural beaches, offers a striking walk to the shifting sands where two seas visibly converge. Skagen rewards those drawn to art, coastal scenery, and the far northern edge of Denmark.

Den Tilsandede Kirke, a 14th-century church nearly swallowed by drifting dunes, stands a short drive or bike ride southeast of town with only its whitewashed tower now visible above the sand.

The open-air tractor bus known as Sandormen carries visitors across the shifting dunes to the very point where the seas collide, sparing legs for gallery-hopping back in town.
