About the Port
Rábida sits just off the southern shore of Santiago Island in the Galápagos Archipelago, a small landmass distinguished by its striking maroon-colored sand, tinted by iron-rich volcanic rock. Landings are typically made by panga, as the island has no dock, and the shoreline gives way quickly to arid terrain shaped by past volcanic activity. The island is uninhabited and protected as part of the Galápagos National Park.
A resident colony of sea lions frequents the beach, often resting close to the shoreline, while marine iguanas bask on nearby rocks. Birdwatchers may spot mockingbirds and various finch species, and the surrounding waters support snorkeling opportunities among colorful reef fish.
