About the Port
Punta Cormorant sits on Floreana Island, the southernmost inhabited island in the Galápagos archipelago. Arrival is by panga for a wet landing on a beach tinted olive-green by Olivine crystals washed down from nearby volcanic formations, a striking and unusual geological feature found in few other places on earth. A short walk leads inland past a brackish lagoon frequented by flamingos and other shorebirds, ending at a white coral-sand beach favored by nesting sea turtles.
The site offers an easy, well-marked walking trail suited to most fitness levels, with uneven volcanic terrain in places calling for sturdy footwear. Nearby Floreana also holds Post Office Bay, home to a centuries-old barrel used informally as a mail drop by passing sailors. Together these stops give visitors a compact but vivid introduction to the island's volcanic landscape, layered history, and abundant wildlife.
