About the Port
Founded by Greek settlers and later shaped by Roman, Spanish, and Bourbon rule, Naples is a UNESCO-listed city where narrow lanes hum with scooters, laundry lines, and street life. The waterfront centers on Megaride Island, where the seaside Castel dell'Ovo takes its name from a legend of a protective egg said to have been placed there by the poet Virgil. Elsewhere, centuries of layered architecture and celebrated museums reflect the city's long role as a Mediterranean crossroads.
Beyond its historic core, Naples serves as the natural jumping-off point for the ruins of Pompeii and the cliffside towns of the Amalfi Coast, both readily reached from the port. The city center itself lies within walking distance of the pier, making it easy to explore piazzas, churches, and the birthplace of pizza on foot before venturing farther along the bay.

This narrow, arrow-straight street splits the historic center in two, lined with Baroque churches, hidden courtyards, and pizzerias. Wander it on foot directly from the port to soak up Naples's raw, layered character.
Amalfi Coast by Car
Naples serves as the gateway to Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, whose cliffside villages overlook turquoise water along a famously winding coastal road. The drive takes about 90 minutes each way, so a private car or organized excursion makes the most of limited port time.
