About The Port Of Milford Sound
Milford Sound sits within Fiordland National Park, a vast wilderness of more than 1.2 million hectares on the South Island's remote southwest coast. Glacially carved granite walls rise directly from the dark waters of the fjord, often veiled in mist and threaded with waterfalls that swell after rain. Rudyard Kipling once called it the eighth wonder of the world, and the sound's dramatic scale still leaves visitors similarly struck.
Ships cruise slowly through the fjord to reveal peaks such as Mitre Peak, along with resident colonies of fur seals and, in season, pods of dolphins. The surrounding rainforest clings to nearly vertical slopes, fed by some of the highest rainfall in the country.
