Mayreau

The smallest inhabited Grenadine, where a hilltop church and a quiet anchorage frame one of the Caribbean's last unspoiled shores

All Cruise Ports

About the Port

Mayreau covers barely four square kilometers, making it the smallest inhabited island in the Grenadines, with a population of around 250 people and no airport to disturb its quiet. Saline Bay, the island's main anchorage, sits on a narrow strip of land dividing the calm Caribbean from the open Atlantic, backed by soft sand and clear, reef-lined water well suited to swimming and snorkeling.

A short walk up the island's highest hill leads to a small church whose vantage point takes in Grenada and St. Vincent on a clear day, along with the color of the surrounding coral reefs. With few roads and even fewer buildings, Mayreau rewards those who simply wander its footpaths between beach and village, a rare pocket of the Caribbean that has changed very little over time.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Mayreau.

Snorkel Saline Bay's Reefs

Slip into the clear water right off the beach at the main anchorage, where fringing reefs sit close to shore and shelter colorful fish. Bring or rent gear, as no dive shop crowds this stretch of sand.

Hike to the Hilltop Church

A steady 15-20 minute walk up the island's highest point ends at a modest chapel with sweeping views of Grenada and St. Vincent on clear days. Go in early morning light for the best visibility over the reefs below.

Wander the Village Footpaths

With almost no cars or roads, Mayreau is best explored on foot along sandy paths linking the beach to its tiny village. Expect a handful of homes, a small school, and unhurried island life largely unchanged for decades.
