About The Port Of Lunga
Lunga, the largest of the Treshnish Isles off Scotland's west coast, is an uninhabited sanctuary for seabirds and solitude. Grassy clifftops give way to dramatic basalt formations and sheltered coves, while colonies of puffins, guillemots, and razorbills crowd the ledges in great numbers. Gray seals often haul out on the surrounding rocks, adding to the sense of a landscape shaped entirely by nature rather than settlement.
Reaching the island requires a small-boat landing, as there is no pier or harbor infrastructure, and paths across the turf lead walkers close to the puffin burrows near the clifftop known as the Harp Rock. The absence of any village or facilities keeps the setting wild and unspoiled. Visits are brief but memorable, offering a rare chance to witness one of Scotland's great wildlife spectacles in a remote, wind-swept corner of the Hebrides.

Get Close to Puffin Burrows
Walk the clifftop turf near Harp Rock where puffins nest at arm's length, utterly unbothered by visitors. Bring a camera with zoom, though often none is needed at all.
Climb to Harp Rock
A short but steep grassy climb leads to this basalt promontory thick with nesting guillemots and razorbills. Sturdy shoes help, as the path can be uneven and slick underfoot.
Watch for Seals Offshore
Scan the rocky skerries around the landing point for gray seals hauled out in the shallows. The small-boat approach itself often gives the best vantage before you even set foot ashore.
