About the Port
Kinderdijk sits at the confluence of the Lek and Noord rivers, where a network of canals, pumping stations, and nineteen windmills was built beginning in the 1700s to manage water levels in the surrounding lowlands. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the windmills remain a striking testament to centuries of Dutch water engineering and continue to operate on select days.
