About The Port Of Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls spans a four-kilometer, crescent-shaped cliff where the Iguazu River splits into hundreds of individual cascades before plunging into the gorge below. On the Brazilian side, walkways lead visitors out over the water for sweeping panoramic views of the falls in full width, while the Argentine side, home to roughly 80 percent of the cascades, offers closer approaches to the cliff face and the powerful Devil's Throat overlook. Surrounding rainforest, part of a protected national park on each side of the border, adds birdsong and dense greenery to the spectacle.

Most visits combine both perspectives, since each side reveals a different scale and character of the falls. Early morning arrivals often bring softer light and thinner crowds, making sunrise a favored time to take in the view. The falls sit inland from the coast, so port calls typically involve a flight or overland transfer, with the gateway towns on both sides offering convenient access to the park entrances.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Iguazu Falls.

Stand at Devil's Throat

Follow the Argentine side's upper and lower walkways to the edge of this thunderous overlook, the largest and most powerful of the cascades. Arriving before the crowds, right at gate opening, gives the most dramatic views and mist-filled photos.

Walk the Brazilian Panoramic Trail

A well-paved path leads to a walkway extending into the gorge, framing the full four-kilometer crescent of cascades in one sweeping view. Allow about an hour, and bring a rain jacket for the spray.

Catch Sunrise Over the Falls

Early arrival brings softer light, thinner crowds, and a rare stillness over the cascades before tour groups descend. Rainforest birdsong and rising mist make this the most memorable hour to experience the park.
