Coron

Limestone cliffs, hidden lagoons, and WWII wreck dives make Coron a jewel of the Philippine archipelago

About the Port

Coron sits on Busuanga Island in the Calamian group of northern Palawan, ringed by dramatic limestone karsts and clear turquoise water. The town serves as gateway to Kayangan Lake, often cited among the cleanest lakes in Asia, reached by a short boardwalk and stair climb that rewards travelers with sweeping views over the surrounding cliffs. Coron Bay is equally known among divers for a cluster of Japanese shipwrecks resting near the surface, remnants of a World War II naval raid.

Most calls anchor offshore, with tenders ferrying passengers into town, where outrigger bancas wait to run day trips to nearby lagoons, reef snorkeling sites, and hot springs. Beyond the water, Busuanga's interior holds Calauit Safari Park, home to giraffes and zebras introduced decades ago alongside native wildlife, offering an unexpected detour from the coastal scenery that defines this corner of Palawan.

Pavlus Recommendations

How our planners would spend a day in Coron.

Climb to Kayangan Lake Viewpoint

A steep boardwalk and stair climb of about 15 minutes leads to a platform overlooking the lake and karst cliffs before descending to swim in its cool, glassy water. Go early to beat crowds on the stairs.

Snorkel Twin Lagoon

A narrow swim-through crack in the limestone connects two lagoons where cool freshwater layers meet the sea, a favorite banka-trip stop paired with nearby reef snorkeling sites.

Dive or Snorkel the Wrecks

A dozen Japanese shipwrecks from a 1944 air raid lie just off Coron Bay, some shallow enough for snorkelers to see, making this a rare easy-access wreck site for divers of any level.
